5d. Screen Capture – Jing
The What
Screen capture is the action of capturing a static image from a computer screen. Screen casting is the action of recording the activity on a computer screen. Jing is a popular free tool that offers basic screen capture and casting functionality.
The Why
Why would a library use Jing? Often times an organization will need to capture all or parts of a computer screen for purposes of creating a training brochure or simply to share what they’ve seen on the computer. Screen capture tools allow the user to do just this and more. In addition to capturing screen images the current tools also are capable of recording what is being done on the screen to create instructional videos and more.
